Hey, it’s Alissa
(uh-lee-sah)!
I’m a small town girl with big city dreams. Being one of the few Vietnamese American kids growing up, I never felt like I truly belonged whether that was in school, within my family, or in the small existing Vietnamese community in Olympia. To find some kind of solace, I turned to writing. From the roleplaying days on Gaia Online to learning about spoken word poetry in high school, I felt seen and understood through writing, specifically creative nonfiction and poetry.
Though, I struggled to find the resources and community I needed to hone my writing craft after receiving my BA in Writing Studies at University of Washington - Tacoma, and moved to San Diego for my MFA in Writing at UC San Diego.
…which started a flurry of side quests: winning second place in a beauty contest, publishing an experimental memoir in 2022, becoming a programmer for the San Diego Asian Film Festival, grant writing for a few years, advocating for public transit, and co-hosting a podcast in a ball pit, I’m always trying to achieve my most delulu dreams!
And I hope I can help with yours. With intentionality, warmth, and consideration, I want to support your dreams through writing and provide you the resources and skills that I didn’t have on my own writing journey.
Sooooo, as Fin.K.L sings in “To My Boyfriend,” “Call me, call me, call, call, give a call,” and let’s make your dreams come true!
